Maine Music Box
Searchable Digital Database of Downloadable Music Resources
Autograff worked with University of Maine's Fogler Library (see Windows on Maine for another Autograff/University of Maine collaboration) to create this website. Based on a collection of music from the late 1800s and early 1900s from the Bagaduce Music Lending Library and Bangor Public Library, the website comprises two channels.
1. Browse/Search Channel
This section of the website provides broad search capabilities for music files. The data is returned in detailed listings with composer information, lyrics, downloadable music covers and scanned musical scores, midi (musical instrument digital interface) files and Scorch files, which are special digital musical scores playable on midi-enabled instruments and able to be transposed to different keys, played on different virtual instruments and changed in tempo.
2. Instructional Channel
Autograff led the team of educational consultants in assessing instructional needs and creating specifications for online instruction. Autograff created the instructional concept, the specifiations, and the programming requirements. The Instructional Channel enables instructors to create lessons, choose music form the Music Box collection by browsing and adding it to their lessons, create detailed assignments, and give students access to the finished lesson.
Collaborative success
Autograff worked closely with the University of Maine to design specifications, set goals and timelines, and insure that the non-design aspects of the site, such as input from educational consultants, was collected and interpreted. Autograff created the logo design and the web interface. Programming, database design and server configuration by Curtis Meadow of Trefoil Corporation of Orono, Maine.
